We classify potential cosmic strings according to the topological charge measurable outside the string core. We conjecture that in string theory it is this charge that governs the stability of long strings.

Two-Loop Superstrings in Hyperelliptic Language I: the Main Results [PDF]
Following the new gauging fixing method of D'Hoker and Phong, we study two-loop superstrings in hyperelliptic language. By using hyperelliptic representation of genus 2 Riemann surface we derive a set of identities involving the Szeg\"o kernel.

Twistor--like Formulation of the Supermembrane in D=11 $^*$
We propose a new formulation of the D=11 supermembrane theory that involves commuting spinors (twistor--like variables) and exhibits a manifest $n$--extended world volume supersymmetry $(1\leq n\leq 8)$.

Modular graph functions and odd cuspidal functions. Fourier and Poincaré series
Modular graph functions are SL(2, ℤ)-invariant functions associated with Feynman graphs of a two-dimensional conformal field theory on a torus of modulus τ. For one-loop graphs they reduce to real analytic Eisenstein series. We obtain the Fourier series,

On unitarity of tree-level string amplitudes
Four-particle tree-level scattering amplitudes in string theory are magically consistent with unitarity, reflected in the non-trivial fact that beneath the critical dimension, the residues of the amplitudes on massive poles can be expanded in partial ...

One-loop monodromy relations on single cuts
The discovery of colour-kinematic duality has led to significant progress in the computation of scattering amplitudes in quantum field theories. At tree level, the origin of the duality can be traced back to the monodromies of open-string amplitudes ...

Superstring amplitudes from BCJ numerators at one loop
We find a direct map that determines moduli-space integrands for one-loop superstring amplitudes in terms of field-theory loop integrands in the BCJ form. The latter can be computed using efficient unitarity methods, so our map provides an alternative to

Superstring amplitudes from the field-theory limit: an n-point map at one loop
Are perturbative superstring amplitudes for massless external states just an α ′ dressing of super-Yang-Mills/supergravity? This is the case at tree level, where the worldsheet correlators at n points can be written in a natural worldsheet basis, such ...

Duality, Strings and Supergravity: a Status Report [PDF]
We will report on recent advances in the understanding of non-perturbative interconnections between different string dualities. Weak-strong coupling duality (S-duality) and T-duality (symmetry under compactification on dual tori) allows one to compare ...
