Dilaton vertices of the closed superstring and the heterotic string

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 1988
Abstract BRST - and conformally invariant dilaton vertices of the closed superstring and the heterotic string are constructed, whose counter terms are consistent with the dilaton terms introduced in the non-linear sigma model approach of string theory.

Introduction to branes and M-theory for relativists and cosmologists

open access: yes, 2002
We review the recent developments in superstrings. We start with a brief summary of various consistent superstring theories and discuss T-duality which necessarily leads to the presence of D-branes.

The Landscape, the Swampland and the Era of Precision Cosmology

open access: yesFortschritte der Physik, Volume 67, Issue 1-2, January-February 2019., 2019
Abstract We review the advanced version of the KKLT construction and pure de Sitter supergravity, involving a nilpotent multiplet, with regard to various conjectures that de Sitter state cannot exist in string theory. We explain why we consider these conjectures problematic and not well motivated, and why the recently proposed alternative string theory

On the existence of heterotic-string and type-II-superstring field theory vertices

open access: yesJournal of Geometry and Physics
We consider two problems associated to the space of Riemann surfaces that are closely related to string theory. We first consider the problem of existence of heterotic-string and type-II-superstring field theory vertices in the product of spaces of bordered surfaces parameterizing left- and right-moving sectors of these theories. It turns out that this

CCNV Space‐Times as Potential Supergravity Solutions

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
It is of interest to study supergravity solutions preserving a nonminimal fraction of supersymmetries. A necessary condition for supersymmetry to be preserved is that the space‐time admits a Killing spinor and hence a null or time‐like Killing vector field.

The Power of M Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
A proposed duality between type IIB superstring theory on R^9 X S^1 and a conjectured 11D fundamental theory (``M theory'') on R^9 X T^2 is investigated.

Calabi‐Yau Manifolds, Hermitian Yang‐Mills Instantons, and Mirror Symmetry

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
We address the issue of why Calabi‐Yau manifolds exist with a mirror pair. We observe that the irreducible spinor representation of the Lorentz group Spin(6) requires us to consider the vector spaces of two forms and four forms on an equal footing. The doubling of the two‐form vector space due to the Hodge duality doubles the variety of six‐dimensional

New BPS states from bosonic/heterotic duality

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
In this paper, we consider the recently proposed bosonic/heterotic duality that relates the heterotic superstrings to the noncritical bosonic string. Although the latter is nonsupersymmetric, it can be viewed as pseudo-supersymmetric in that the theory ...

Jumping spectra and vanishing couplings in heterotic Line Bundle Standard Models

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We study two aspects of the physics of heterotic Line Bundle Standard Models on smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds. First, we investigate to what degree modern moduli stabilization scenarios can affect the standard model spectrum in such compactifications ...

Open String Thermodynamics and D-Branes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We study the thermodynamics of open superstrings in the presence of $p$-dimensional D-branes. We get some finite temperature dualities relating the one-loop canonical free energy of open strings to the self-energy of D-branes at dual temperature. For the
