Space-time supersymmetry, IIA/B duality and M-theory [PDF]

open access: bronzePhysics Letters B, 1999
The connection between IIA superstring theory compactified on a circle of radius R and IIB theory compactified on a circle of radius 1/R is reexamined from the perspective of N=2, D=9 space-time supersymmetry. We argue that the consistency of IIA/B duality requires the BPS states corresponding to momentum and winding of either of the type-II ...

Holomorphic field theories and higher algebra

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 57, Issue 10, Page 2903-2974, October 2025.
Abstract Aimed at complex geometers and representation theorists, this survey explores higher dimensional analogs of the rich interplay between Riemann surfaces, Virasoro and Kac‐Moody Lie algebras, and conformal blocks. We introduce a panoply of examples from physics — field theories that are holomorphic in nature, such as holomorphic Chern‐Simons ...

Dark Dimension With (Little) Strings Attached

open access: yesFortschritte der Physik, Volume 73, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract A relation between dark energy and the scale of new physics in weakly coupled string theory is motivated. This mixing between infrared and ultraviolet physics leads to a unique corner for real‐world phenomenology: barring fine‐tunings, the authors are naturally led to the “dark dimension” scenario, a single mesoscopic extra dimension of micron

Transcendentality violation in type IIB string amplitudes

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
We analyze transcendentality for certain terms that arise in multiloop amplitudes in the low momentum expansion of the four graviton amplitude in type IIB string theory in ten dimensions, based on the constraints of supersymmetry and S-duality.

Exploring the geometry of supersymmetric double field theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
The geometry of N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 1 supersymmetric double field theory is revisited in superspace. In order to maintain the constraints on the torsion tensor, the local tangent space group of O(D) × O(D) must be expanded to include a tower of higher ...

Duality Invariant Superstring Actions

open access: yes, 1994
Worldsheet supersymmetric string action is written in duality invariant form for flat as well as curved backgrounds. First the action in flat backgrounds is written by introducing auxiliary fields.

The tensor Goldstone multiplet for partially broken supersymmetry [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We show that the tensor gauge multiplet of N=1 supersymmetry can serve as the Goldstone multiplet for partially broken rigid N=2 supersymmetry. We exploit a remarkable analogy with the Goldstone-Maxwell multiplet of hep-th/9608177 to find its nonlinear ...

Duality, partial supersymmetry, and arithmetic number theory [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 1998
We find examples of duality among quantum theories that are related to arithmetic functions by identifying distinct Hamiltonians that have identical partition functions at suitably related coupling constants or temperatures. We are led to this after first developing the notion of partial supersymmetry, in which some, but not all, of the operators of a ...

Foundations of Ghost Stability

open access: yesFortschritte der Physik, Volume 73, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract The authors present a new method to analytically prove global stability in ghost‐ridden dynamical systems. The proposal encompasses all prior results and consequentially extends them. In particular, it is shown that stability can follow from a conserved quantity that is unbounded from below, contrary to expectation.

Reflection groups and 3d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ > 6 SCFTs

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We point out that the moduli spaces of all known 3d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 8 and N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 6 SCFTs, after suitable gaugings of finite symmetry groups, have the form ℂ 4r /Γ where Γ is a real or complex reflection group depending on whether the
