The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Dynamic MAML with Efficient Multi-Scale Attention for Cross-Load Few-Shot Bearing Fault Diagnosis

open access: yesEntropy
Accurate bearing fault diagnosis under various operational conditions presents significant challenges, mainly due to the limited availability of labeled data and the domain mismatches across different operating environments.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Research on Classification and Identification of Crack Faults in Steam Turbine Blades Based on Supervised Contrastive Learning

open access: yesEntropy
Steam turbine blades may crack, break, or suffer other failures due to high temperatures, high pressures, and high-speed rotation, which seriously threatens the safety and reliability of the equipment.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Sustainable Supply Chains: Introduction

open access: yes, 2016
As firms become progressively more tightly coupled in global supply chains, rather than being large vertically integrated monoliths, risks and opportunities associated with activities, upstream or downstream, will increasingly impinge upon their own well-being.

Rethinking fuelwood: people, policy and the anatomy of a charcoal supply chain in a decentralizing Peru [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In Peru, as in many developing countries, charcoal is an important source of fuel. We examine the commercial charcoal commodity chain from its production in Ucayali, in the Peruvian Amazon, to its sale in the national market.
