Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling-3 (SOCS-3) Induces Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin Kexin Type 9 (PCSK9) Expression in Hepatic HepG2 Cell Line*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2015
The suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) proteins are negative regulators of the JAK/STAT pathway activated by proinflammatory cytokines, including the tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α).

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

CISH is a negative regulator of IL-13-induced CCL26 production in lung fibroblasts

open access: yesAllergology International, 2019
Background: Bronchial asthma is a chronic airway disease characterized by eosinophilic airway inflammation. Lung fibroblasts activated by IL-13 serve as important sources of chemokines, such as eotaxins, contributing to persistent eosinophilic ...

Dlgh1 coordinates actin polymerization, synaptic T cell receptor and lipid raft aggregation, and effector function in T cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Lipid raft membrane compartmentalization and membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) family molecular scaffolds function in establishing cell polarity and organizing signal transducers within epithelial cell junctions and neuronal synapses. Here, we

MicroRNA-155 expression is independently predictive of outcome in chordoma. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BackgroundChordoma pathogenesis remains poorly understood. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationships between microRNA-155 (miR-155) expression and the clinicopathological features of chordoma patients, and to evaluate the functional role of ...

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Manassantin A and B From Saururus chinensis Inhibit Interleukin-6–Induced Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 Activation in Hep3B Cells

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2011
Inhibition of interleukin-6 (IL-6) has been postulated to be an effective therapy in the pathogenesis of several inflammatory diseases. The current study was performed to examine potential effects of manassantin A and B isolated from Saururus chinensis ...

Tumor-stroma interactions influence the response to PI3K targeted agents in preclinical models of colorectal cancer (CRC) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction: One of the main obstacle to the successful development of therapeutic strategies remains the identification of biomarker underlying drug resistance. Recently, investigators have become more aware the role of the tumor microenvironment (TME)
