Error Field Assessment from Driven Rotation of Stable External Kinks at EXTRAP-T2R Reversed Field Pinch

open access: yes, 2013
A new non-disruptive error field (EF) assessment technique not restricted to low density and thus low beta was demonstrated at the EXTRAP-T2R reversed field pinch.

Engineering Strategies for Stable and Long‐Life Alkaline Zinc‐Based Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Alkaline zinc‐based flow batteries face persistent challenges from unstable zinc deposition, including dendrite growth, passivation, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution, which severely limit cycling stability. Current research addresses these issues through coordinated electrode structuring, electrolyte regulation, and membrane design to control zinc ...

Battery deactivation with redox shuttles for safe and efficient recycling

open access: yesScientific Reports
To safely recycle spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), their deactivation as a pretreatment is essential. However, the conventional deactivation methods, mainly inducing an external short circuit, cannot be applied to LIBs with disconnected electrical ...

Photodegradation of clofibric acid in urban, town, and rural waters: important roles of dissolved organic matter composition

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science
Natural photolysis was the primary pathway for the transformation of pharmaceutical contaminants in surface water, whereas it could be easily influenced by dissolved organic matter (DOM).

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

Forestland-peatland hydrologic connectivity in water-limited environments: hydraulic gradients often oppose topography

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2020
It is common to conceptualize the water table as a subdued replica of surface topography, where groundwater recharges at, and flows from, topographic highs and flows to, and discharges at, topographic lows, in humid (i.e. wetter) environments.

Constructing Ionic Fast Diffusion Channels on LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐modification strategy is developed for LNMO cathode, where bulk Ti doping stabilizes the oxygen framework and simultaneously drives the in situ formation of LaTi2O6 nano‐islands as ion diffusion channels on (111) surfaces, enabling high‐rate capacity (∼100 mAh g−1 at 30 C) and excellent cycling retention (87.8% after 1000 cycles).

Robust Polymer Hydrogels Improve Electric‐Fish‐Inspired Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Electric‐fish‐inspired hydrogel batteries based on ion‐concentration gradients offer an attractive route to soft power sources; however, the poor mechanical properties of existing hydrogels limit device assembly and performance. Here, we report poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate hydrogels that enable ion‐gradient batteries composed of

Time-frequency analysis of the AE signals generated by PDs on bushing and stand-off insulators

open access: yesArchives of Acoustics, 2014
The subject matter of this paper refers to the application of the acoustic emission method (AE) for the measurement and analysis of the pulses (AE) generated by surface partial discharges (SPD) occurring on bushing and stand-off insulators.

Dual‐Programmable Architected Magnetic Soft Materials: Tuning Mechano–Electric Responses by Inverse Design

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Materials that can deform, sense, and autonomously generate power in response to wireless magnetic fields, through both magnetic‐actuated shape transformation and charge generation, are an emerging focus in advanced functional materials research.
