New approach to spectroscopy of surface plasmons
Optics Letters, 2006We report a novel approach to spectroscopy of surface plasmons based on the simultaneous excitation of surface plasmons by a polychromatic light and the dispersion of light on a diffraction grating coupler of a special design. This approach shows promise for the development of new, miniaturized, spectroscopic surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors ...

A variational approach to spline curves on surfaces
Computer Aided Geometric Design, 2005Given an \(m\)-dimensional surface \(\Phi\) in \({\mathbb R}^n\), the authors characterize parametric curves in \(\Phi\), which interpolate a sequence of given points in \(\Phi\), and minimize an energy functional. More precisely, the authors provide a characterization of the counterparts on surfaces to \(C^2\) cubic splines, to splines in tension and ...

Modification of polymer surfaces: optimization of approaches
Perfusion, 2003Modification of polymer surfaces to achieve a surface with enhanced compatibility is an important means of obtaining improved biomaterials. Techniques are available for altering the hydrophilicity or charge of a surface, attaching macromolecules or attempting to resemble cell membranes.

2002
In this paper, we present an application of a space mapping technique for surface reconstruction (more precisely: reconstruction of missing parts of a real geometric object represented by volume data). Using a space mapping technique, the surface of a given model, in particular tooth shape is fitted by a shape transformation to extrapolate the ...

AN AUTOREGRESSIVE APPROACH TO SURFACE TEXTURE ANALYSIS
International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, 1994The use of autoregressive models in textual analysis holds great potential. Coupling the technique to a circular neighbourhood set imparts a rotational invariant property to it. This was demonstrated by Kashyap and Khotanzad in their model called the Circular Symmetric Autogressive (CSAR) Random Field model.

An approach to surface retouching and mesh smoothing
The Visual Computer, 2003In this paper, we discuss a novel, fast, practical algorithm for surface modification of geometric objects. A space-mapping technique is used to transform a given or damaged part of a surface into a different shape in a continuous manner. The proposed approach is used for surface-retouching and mesh-smoothing problems.

On surface reconstruction: A priority driven approach
Computer-Aided Design, 2009To reconstruct an object surface from a set of surface points, a fast, practical, and efficient priority driven algorithm is presented. The key idea of the method is to consider the shape changes of an object at the boundary of the mesh growing area and to create a priority queue to the advancing front of the mesh area according to the changes.

Surface Reconstruction Based on a Descriptive Approach
2000The design of complex surfaces is generally hard to achieve. A natural method consists in the subdivision of the global surface into basic surface elements. The different elements are independently designed and then assembled together to represent the final surface.
