Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

The effect of large-scale interannual variations in the Gulf of Guinea

open access: yes, 2011
The Gulf of Guinea is an important region of tropical Atlantic variability, and embedded within it are the Atlantic Ni~no and the seasonal tropical instability waves.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

High-resolution modeling of local-scale currents using machine learning and artificial intelligence: application to Santander Bay

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
High-resolution hydrodynamic data are essential for coastal and estuarine management. However, traditional downscaling methods based on numerical modeling remain computationally expensive, limiting their applicability for long-term hindcasts and ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

The role of currents in the dispersal of introduced seashore plants around Australia

open access: yes, 2007
The aim of this study was to assess the role of currents in the dispersal of seashore species with buoyant propagules. Four introduced species which have now attained a wide distribution in southern and eastern Australia were used as indicators: Cakile ...

Surface and Bottom Currents in the Strait of Georgia

open access: yes, 1956
Measurements of the currents close to the bottom and at the surface have been made at six stations along a section across the Strait of Georgia from Point Roberts to Galiano Island, and at two stations in Trincomali Channel.

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

On Extreme Surface and Sub-Surface Currents Driven by North Brazil Current Rings Offshore Suriname

open access: yes, 2018
North Brazil Current Rings (NBCRs) are mesoscale oceanic vortexes (100-500km in diameter) that significantly affect current conditions offshore Suriname and other countries in the Western Equatorial Atlantic.
