Intermittency of the velocity fluctuations in a granular surface flow

Physics of Fluids, 2007
Velocity fluctuations in a granular surface flow are studied. These fluctuations are self-similar at small scales with an energy density spectrum showing a −5∕3 power law. The probability density functions of velocity increments are strongly non-Gaussian.

Exploring the optimal experimental setup for surface flow velocity measurements using PTV

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2018
Advances in flow monitoring are crucial to increase our knowledge on basin hydrology and to understand the interactions between flow dynamics and infrastructures. In this context, image processing offers great potential for hydraulic monitoring, allowing acquisition of a wide range of measurements with high spatial resolution at relatively low costs ...

Separated Flow Surface Pressure Fluctuations and Pressure-Velocity Correlations on Prolate Spheroid

AIAA Journal, 2000
Power spectra of turbulent surface pressure fluctuations and spatial correlation coefficients of surface pressure-velocity are presented for the leeside, three-dimensional, separated crossflow over a 6:1 prolate spheroid at Re L = 4.2 × 106 for angles of attack of 10 and 20 deg.

Entropy-based depth-averaged velocity assessment from surface flow velocity

Discharge estimation at a river site depends on local hydraulic conditions identified by recording water levels. In fact, stage monitoring is straightforward and relatively inexpensive compared with the cost necessary to carry out flow velocity measurements which are, however, limited to low flows and constrained by the accessibility of the site.

TiO2 Surface Modifications for Light Modulated Control of Flow Velocity

2000
Controlling flow in microchannels is an important part of microfluidics. TiO2 is a direct semiconductor that exhibits a change in surface charge upon irradation with UV light. We have exploited this phenomenon to control flow in micro channels. Light is used to modulate bulk and local velocities.

Measuring debris flow surface velocities through video image processing

1998
This note present a technique based on video image processing for the estimation of surface velocity of debris flows. The method has been developed and tested using video images recorded on the occasion of two debris flows in an instrumented basin of the northern Italian Alps.

Effect of Hydrophobic Surface on Velocity Profile of Pipe Flow

2017
The branch of fluid mechanics is also familiar with biomechanics recently. The combination of hydrodynamic The branch of fluid mechanics is also familiar with biomechanics recently. The combination of hydrodynamic and mechanical specification of the flow can reach the complex description of the liquid flow in the hydraulic system.
