Surface Hardening Characterization Of Transmission Gears [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper is presented to compare the transmission gear products from SME (UKM gear) and national scale manufacturer (OEM gear) especially on the surface hardening characterization. Both gears were heat treated with different methods.

Plasma Nitriding of 90CrMoV8 Tool Steel for the Enhancement of Hardness and Corrosion Resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The aim of the study is to apply a plasma nitriding process to the 90CrMoV8 steel commonly employed in wood machining, and to determine its efficiency to improve both mechanical and electrochemical properties of the surface.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Influence of electrolytic-plasma hardening modes on structure and hardness of 0.34Cr-1Ni-Mo-Fe steel

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Physics and Functional Materials, 2021
The article presents the results of studying the process of electrolytic-plasma hardening of 0.34Cr-1NiMo- Fe steel by surface hardening, as well as the results of the current-voltage characteristics of the cathodic electrolytic-plasma process depending ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Evaluating the efficiency of hardening treatment of cylindrical parts made of structural steels

open access: yesВестник Самарского университета: Аэрокосмическая техника, технологии и машиностроение, 2018
The investigated objects are solid and hollow notched cylindrical specimens made of structural steels surface-hardened with the use of two techniques: hydraulic shot blasting and air shot blasting.

State of the Art of Laser Hardening and Cladding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper an overview is given about laser surface modification processes, which are developed especially with the aim of hardness improvement for an enhanced fatigue and wear behaviour.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Peen plating [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
A process for metal plating which comprises spraying a mixture of metallic powder and small peening particles at high velocity against a surface is described. The velocity must be sufficient to impact and bond metallic powder onto the surface.

Fluctuation phenomena in crystal plasticity - a continuum model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
On microscopic and mesoscopic scales, plastic flow of crystals is characterized by large intrinsic fluctuations. Deformation by crystallographic slip occurs in a sequence of intermittent bursts ('slip avalanches') with power-law size distribution. In the
