Vessel heave, and index for air bubble attenuation corrections [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The possible use of vessel heave as a correction indicator for air bubble attenuation of acoustic signals from hull mounted transducers is investigated.

The Fate of Frozen Carbonated Water at Europa-like Conditions

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
We present the results of experiments probing the retention of CO _2 in crystalline water ice, frozen sodium chloride (NaCl) brines, and flash-frozen carbonated water using diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy. Characteristic absorptions alluding to

Human Gut Bacteria and Lipidic Nanoparticles: Particle Composition Predicts Structural Transformation and Bacterial Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipidic nanoparticles (LNPs) were incubated with 21 gut bacteria frequently associated with the human microbiome. SAXS revealed that ∼75% of tested species induced structural transformations in monoolein LNPs, whereas phytantriol and phospholipid formulations remained unaffected.

A stripping method for Atlantic halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus L.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
A stripping-board was built and tested on a broodstock of halibut ranging from 8 to 150 kg body weight. The smooth surface of the neophrene mattress minimized the loss of mucus and reduced the stripping stress considerably.

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

A PC-based echo integrator system appliable for school structure analyzis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
A low cost system for integration of echo signals on a PC has been developed. The system calculates the area backscattering strength in surface and bottom layers, and is designed both for the purpose of conventional acoustic abundance estimation and for ...

Microenvironmental Reprogramming by 3D Anisotropic Cardiac Extracellular Matrix Induces Nuclear Remodeling and Epigenetic Maturation of Chemically Induced Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D anisotropic hydrogel derived from heart extracellular matrix guides cytoskeletal alignment and nuclear remodeling in reprogrammed cardiomyocyte‐like cells. This study reveals how matrix alignment modulates nuclear envelope dynamics and chromatin state, triggering transcriptional and functional maturation.

The formation of molecular hydrogen in the interstellar medium

open access: yes, 2010
H2 is the most abundant molecule in the interstellar medium and forms on the surface of interstellar dust grains. Laboratory studies have been conducted of HD formation on a dust grain analogue, which is a highly-oriented pyrolytic graphite surface ...

Working Group on Fisheries Benthic Impact and Trade-offs (WGFBIT; outputs from 2024 meeting)

open access: yes
The Working Group on Fisheries Benthic Impact and Trade-offs (WGFBIT) develops methods and assessments to evaluate fisheries’ benthic impact at a regional scale while considering trade-offs between fisheries and seabed health.
