Mortality and injuries of haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) that are caught by pelagic longline [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
By-catches of haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) below legal size (44 cm total length) in the seasonal pelagic longline fisheries for haddock off the coast of Finnmark, northern Norway, are often high.

Optimization of diesel engine characteristics using p-toluene sulfonic acid catalyst-based biodiesel from waste chicken fat oil

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
Amidst rising global demand for sustainable energy substitutes and the complex hindrances connected with a full-scale shift to new technologies, internal combustion engines (ICEs) using biofuels like biodiesel are progressively acquiring a vital role ...

3D Printing Innovations in Polymeric Porous and Patterned Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polymeric foams occupy a unique structural space between dense solids and open networks, where engineered void fraction governs mechanical compliance, thermal resistance, and mass transport. Additive manufacturing now enables precise spatial control over cellular architecture, unlocking designer foam structures across applications spanning crash ...

Molecules, ices and astronomy

open access: yes, 2007
Molecules in interstellar gas and in interstellar ices play a fundamental role in astronomy. However, the formation of the simplest molecule, molecular hydrogen, is still not fully understood.

An acoustic survey on 0-group gadoids in the northern North Sea and the Shetland-Orkney area, July 1984 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
An acoustic survey was carried out by two research vessels in July 1984 to assess the distribution and abundance of 0-group gadoids. The 0-groups were distributed in scattering layers by night and in schools by day.

Rapid Impact Crater Relaxation Caused by an Insulating Methane Clathrate Crust on Titan

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Titan’s impact craters are hundreds of meters shallower than expected, compared to similar-sized craters on Ganymede. Only 90 crater candidates have been identified, the majority of which have low certainty of an impact origin.

Spatiotemporal Drug Delivery via a Neonatal Spinal Cord ECM Hydrogel for Biomimetic Microenvironment Remodeling After Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biomimetic hydrogel derived from neonatal spinal cord ECM (DNSCM) delivers LAMB2 protein and ISP peptide to remodel the inhibitory injury microenvironment. The system sustains drug release, upregulates pro‐regenerative LAMB2, downregulates inhibitory CSPG, and promotes axonal regeneration.

Comparison of Northeast Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus) distribution patterns in the Norwegian Sea using lidar, sonar, and trawl [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In July 2002 the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Bergen mapped the distribution and density of mackerel in the Norwegian Sea using lidar, sonar and trawl. A major objective was to test the efficiency of the lidar as a survey tool.

Microfabricated Anisotropic Myobundles for the Scalable Production of Cardiac Tissue Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the anisotropy of cardiac tissue remains an outstanding challenge in the field of cardiac tissue engineering. Here, we introduce an approach to generate anisotropic cardiac myobundles using cell‐adhesive, synthetic, electrospun fibers and stem cell‐derived cardiac fibroblasts.

Sampling herring in the Norwegian Sea by pelagic trawl [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
When the stock of Norwegian spring-spawning herring is distributed in the Norwegian Sea in summertime, pelagic trawl sampling may be rather challenging because of substantial variation in vertical distribution (from surface and down to 400 m depth ...
