Effect of Surface Nanocrystallization on Fatigue Behavior of Pure Titanium

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2015
The high-cycle fatigue behavior was investigated in pure titanium after surface nanocrystallization (SNC Ti). Compared with the coarse-grained titanium (CG Ti) samples, the SNC Ti samples exhibit an improved fatigue life. The SNC has a remarkable influence on the fatigue cracks initiation and growth of pure titanium.

Study on the Structure and Properties of Surface Nanocrystallized Zr-4

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
A nanostructured surface layer was obtained on the surface of Zr-4 by surface mechanical attrition treatment(SMAT). The structure and the properties of the SMAT sample were analyzed by means of the optical microscope, hardness and polarization curve testing.

Study on Surface Nanocrystallization of TiAl Alloys Induced by HEBMT

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
Utilize the high-energy ball milling techniques (HEBMT) to get a certain thickness of the nanocrystalline layer in gradient structure on TiAl-based alloys surface, while using X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy techniques to analyze the microscopic structure of the surface and study its variation along the depth direction.

Surface nanocrystallization and surface alloying of aluminum alloys [PDF]

open access: possible, 2010
Surface nanocrystallization (SNC) not only can provide an alternative approach to improving the surface durability of Al alloys, it also can activate the surface to promote the subsequent surface alloying treatment. The aim of the present thesis is to investigate the nanocrystallization mechanism of aluminum alloys, the thermal stability of the ...

Nanocrystallization and Surface Magnetic Structure of Ferromagnetic Ribbons and Microwires

2009
The nano-crystals nucleation and growth mechanism in the bulk and at the surface of alloys under the application of a magnetic field or a constant tensile stress during thermal treatment are studied. Clear differences have been found in the nano-crystals growth mechanisms and nano-crystallization of the bulk and surface of the ribbons depending on the ...

Effect of Annealing on the Properties of Surface Nanocrystallized CP-Ti

Materials Science Forum, 2011
Vacuum annealing was carried out for the SMAT treated CP-Ti sample at different temperatures. The structure and the properties of the SMAT sample before and after the annealing were analyzed by means of the optical microscope, hardness and polarization curve testing.

Thermal stability of nanocrystalline layers fabricated by surface nanocrystallization

Applied Surface Science, 2010
Abstract A nanocrystalline layer with ultrafine grains (about 30–40 nm) on the surface of 7050 aluminum alloy was fabricated by a new technique called High Pressure Shot Peening (HPSP) which is the combination of common Shot Peening equipment with a pressurizing vessel.

Surface nanocrystallization of iron induced by ultrasonic shot peening

Nanostructured Materials, 1999
A nanocrystalline surface layer was fabricated on a pure Fe plate by using an ultrasonic shot peening (USSP) technique. The USSP induced surface nanocrystallization products were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM).

An investigation of surface nanocrystallization mechanism in Fe induced by surface mechanical attrition treatment

Acta Materialia, 2002
By means of surface mechanical attrition (SMA), a nanostructured surface layer was formed on a pure Fe plate. Microstructure features of various sections in the surface layer, from the strain-free matrix to the treated top surface, were systematically characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and ...
