From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Surface morphology and deformation mechanism of single crystal copper treated by laser shock peening [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
To study the relation between surface morphology and deformation mechanism of the target material under the shock, a flexible boundary loading, in laser shock peening(LSP), the macroscopic and microscopic surface morphology of a single crystal copper ...

Surface composition analysis of PP films treated by corona discharge

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2003
Polypropylene films (PP) surface treated by corona discharge in air was analyzed to verify the changes on surface composition. The presence of oxidized polar groups on the film surface, mainly, C=O, C-O and COH, was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Measurement of free surface energy of laser treated aluminum substrate

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
The change in the surface energy of the aluminum substrate after laser treatment has been determined experimentally. Surface energy is determined using the Advance KRUSS software.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Investigation of strength recovery of recycled heat treated glass fibres through chemical treatments

open access: yes, 2013
The strength loss of thermally treated glass fibre (GF) at elevated temperature is well reported in literature. This phenomenon even occurs at short period of time such as 25 minutes.

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Plasmodium falciparum antigens on the surface of the gametocyte-infected erythrocyte. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
BACKGROUND: The asexual blood stages of the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum produce highly immunogenic polymorphic antigens that are expressed on the surface of the host cell.
