Estimating the risk of adverse birth outcomes in pregnant women undergoing non-obstetric surgery using routinely collected NHS data: an observational study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Previous research suggests that non-obstetric surgery is carried out in 1 – 2% of all pregnancies. However, there is limited evidence quantifying the associated risks.

Aberrant expression of nuclear prothymosin α contributes to epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

Surgery Of The Adrenals [PDF]

open access: yesThe Scientific World JOURNAL, 1975
Hyperplasia or neoplasia of the adrenal cortex produces aldosterone excess (aldosteronism), hypercortisolism (Cushing’s syndrome), virilism (adreno-genital syndrome), or a mixture of these, according to whether the cells that produce mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, or sex hormones, respectively, are in relative excess.

Why do people not attend for treatment for trachomatous trichiasis in Ethiopia? A study of barriers to surgery. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012

Surgery for cholangiocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesLiver International, 2019
AbstractSurgical resection is the only potentially curative treatment for patients with cholangiocarcinoma. For both perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA), 5‐year overall survival of about 30% has been reported in large series. This review addresses several challenges in surgical management of cholangiocarcinoma.

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular
