A Generalized Ginzburg-Landau Approach to Second Harmonic Generation

open access: yes, 1999
We develop a generalized Ginzburg-Landau theory for second harmonic generation (SHG) in magnets by expanding the free energy in terms of the order parameter in the magnetic phase and the susceptibility tensor in the corresponding high-temperature phase ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Targeting metastatic breast cancer: problems and potential [v1; ref status: indexed, http://f1000r.es/534]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2015
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality of women in the United States. Since the majority of cancer deaths are due to metastases rather than the primary tumor, a better understanding of the biological mechanisms that lead ...

Post-harvest disease : Effects of the physiological age of bananas on their susceptibility to wound anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum musae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Wound anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum e, and early ripening are the main problems affecting the quality of export bananas from a lot of countries in the world. In the case of Guadeloupe in French West Indies, these problems generally concern bananas

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Epigoitrin, an Alkaloid From Isatis indigotica, Reduces H1N1 Infection in Stress-Induced Susceptible Model in vivo and in vitro

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2019
Stress has been proven to modulate an individual’s immune system through the release of pituitary and adrenal hormones such as the catecholamines, growth hormone, and glucocorticoids.

Magnetic extrema in electronic susceptibility and heat capacity of mesoscopic systems

open access: yes, 2004
Oscillating behaviour of the susceptibility and heat capacity is considered for normal and superconducting mesoscopic systems (nanoclusters and quantum dots).

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Brown rot blossom blight of pome and stone fruits: symptom, disease cycle, host resistance, and biological control

open access: yesInternational Journal of Horticultural Science, 2008
In this paper, important features of symptoms, biology and biological disease management are summarised for brown rot blossom blight fungi of pome and stone fruit crops (Monilinia laxa, Monilinia fructicola and Monilinia mali).

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.
