The cytoskeletal control of B cell receptor and integrin signaling in normal B cells and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In lymphoid organs, antigen recognition and B cell receptor signaling rely on integrins and the cytoskeleton. Integrins act as mechanoreceptors, couple B cell receptor activation to cytoskeletal remodeling, and support immune synapse formation as well as antigen extraction.

Determining the Climate Risk in the City Using the Risk Matrix Method - Examples from Poland

open access: yesStudia Ecologiae et Bioethicae, 2022
The preparation of urban adaptation plans in Poland required application of tools, hitherto rarely used in geographical sciences. One of them is the risk matrix, the application of which originates from management science.

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Developing sustainable development [PDF]

open access: yesWIT Transactions on Ecology and the Environment, 2008
Ralf Brand and Andrew Karvonen (The ecosystem of expertise: complementary knowledges for sustainable development. Sustainability: Science, Practice and Policy, 3(1), pp 21–31, Spring 2007) suggest that sustainability poses challenges to the discourse of technical experts and that many existing models do not fit with traditional disciplinary boundaries.

Single‐cell insights into the role of T cells in B‐cell malignancies

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Single‐cell technologies have transformed our understanding of T cell–tumor cell interactions in B‐cell malignancies, revealing new T‐cell subsets, functional states, and immune evasion mechanisms. This Review synthesizes these findings, highlighting the roles of T cells in pathogenesis, progression, and therapy response, and underscoring their ...

An index for sustainable development

open access: yesPSL Quarterly Review, 2004
As a possible improvement to the United Nations' Human Development Index (HDI), we propose including in the set of individual variables some of an environmental or social nature. Thus, by rescaling all the variables non-linearly it is possible to mitigate the effect of outliers and synthesize by principal components, or alternatively by a different ...

Putting Sustainability into Sustainable Human Development [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Human Development and Capabilities, 2013
Abating the threat climate change poses to the lives of future people clearly challenges our development models. The 2011 Human Development Report rightly focuses on the integral links between sustainability and equity. However, the human development and capabilities approach emphasizes the expansion of people's capabilities simpliciter, which is ...
