Ribosomal RNA operon copy number: A trait‐informed framework to close the microbial cultivation gap

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
The vast majority of microbes remain uncultured, constraining functional validation and limiting microbiome‐based applications. We show that ribosomal RNA operon (rrn) copy number—a stable, phylogenetically conserved genomic trait—is strongly correlated with cultivation outcomes across ecosystems.

Effectiveness and Safety of Direct-Acting Antivirals in the Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C: A Real-life Study in Northeastern Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical
Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) for hepatitis C treatment by measuring sustained virologic response (SVR) and serious adverse events to help design effective interventions for ...

CD4 cell count and the risk of AIDS or death in HIV-Infected adults on combination antiretroviral therapy with a suppressed viral load: a longitudinal cohort study from COHERE. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Most adults infected with HIV achieve viral suppression within a year of starting combination antiretroviral therapy (cART). It is important to understand the risk of AIDS events or death for patients with a suppressed viral load.

Microbial influences on immune modulation and colorectal cancer progression through combined transcriptomic and microbiomic analysis

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the distinct tumor microenvironment characteristics in CA1 and CA2 subtypes. CA1 illustrates an immune‐active tumor microenvironment characterized by elevated infiltration of immune cells, particularly CD8 + T cells and macrophages, and enhanced IFN‐γ signaling.

Resistome flow in global landfill systems

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Global landfill systems represent key hubs of resistome, serving as dynamic reservoirs and amplifiers through plasmid‐driven gene mobility. Waste flows and environmental pathways sustain the transboundary resistome networks, accelerating resistance dissemination across ecosystems.

The evolutionary landscape and serotypic dynamics of avian infectious bronchitis virus from spike protein

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
This study integrates two decades of surveillance with genomic and structural analyses to decipher how spike protein glycosylation haplotypes drive avian coronavirus evolution. We uncover how specific glycosylation patterns associate with receptor‐binding affinity, shape global transmission dynamics, and correlate with clinical outcomes.

Sustained Virologic Response for Chronic Hepatitis C Infection After 27 Days of Treatment with Sofosbuvir and Ribavirin

open access: yesOpen Forum Infectious Diseases, 2014
Successful treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus infection can now be achieved using direct-acting antiviral agents without interferon. In this report, we present a patient who achieved a sustained virologic response after 27 days of treatment with ...
