Drying of sweet basil with solar air collectors

open access: yesRenewable Energy, 2016
In this study, sweet basil was dried and its drying parameters were investigated experimentally and theoretically by using newly developed solar air collectors. Proper temperatures were chosen to dry sweet basil and experiments were carried out at different flow rates.

SENSORY CHARACTERISATION OF SWEET BASIL ESSENTIAL OIL

Acta Horticulturae, 2007
Sweet basil is characterised by ample variability of essential oil composition. New industrial uses require better knowledge of its sensory characteristics, in order to meet specific customers' requirements. Panellists were trained to recognise the three more abundant components of basil essential oil, linalool, eugenol and 1,8 cineol, by means of ...

Analysis of the enzymatic formation of citral in the glands of sweet basil

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2006
Basil glands of the Sweet Dani cultivar contain high levels of citral, a mixture of geranial and its cis-isomer neral, as well as low levels of geraniol and nerol. We have previously reported the identification of a cDNA from Sweet Dani that encodes an enzyme responsible for the formation of geraniol from geranyl diphosphate in the glands, and that ...

NUTRIENTS INFLUENCE ON READY TO EAT SWEET BASIL QUALITY

Acta Horticulturae, 2006
In this paper we report on the effects of the nutrient solution strength (single and double strength Hoagland solution) on the nutritional value and shelf life of two cultivars ('Napoletano' and 'Genovese') of hydroponically grown sweet basil. In addition, the effect of a cleaning solution (Clorata (R)) on the harvest product was studied.

Bentazon and Terbacil as Postemergent Herbicides for Sweet Basil and Sweet Marjoram

Journal of Herbs, Spices & Medicinal Plants, 1996
The rate and application method of bentazon [3-isopropyl- 1 H-2,1,3-benzothiadiazin-4(3H)4ne2,2-dioxide] and terbacil [5-chloro-3(1,1-dimethyl)-6-methyl-2,4(lH,3H)-pyrimidinedione] for use with sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) and sweet marjoram (Origanum majorana L.) were evaluated in field studies.
