Ion Activation Methods for Top‐Down Proteomics
ABSTRACT Mass spectrometry (MS) has emerged as a premier method used to characterize the sequences of proteins. Top‐down proteomics aims to capture the multiple sources of structural diversity reflected in proteins, such as those that arise from alternative RNA splicing events or the addition of post‐translational modifications. Tandem MS (i.e., MS/MS)

Origin and Evolution of H1N1/pdm2009: A Codon Usage Perspective
The H1N1/pdm2009 virus is a new triple-reassortant virus. While Eurasian avian-like and triple-reassortant swine influenza viruses are the direct ancestors of H1N1/pdm2009, the classic swine influenza virus facilitate the spectrum of influenza A ...

Porcine innate and adaptative immune responses to influenza and coronavirus infections [PDF]
Both innate and adaptative immune responses contribute to the control of infectious diseases, including by limiting the spreading of zoonotic diseases from animal reservoirs to humans.

Polymerase discordance in novel swine influenza H3N2v constellations is tolerated in swine but not human respiratory epithelial cells. [PDF]
Swine-origin H3N2v, a variant of H3N2 influenza virus, is a concern for novel reassortment with circulating pandemic H1N1 influenza virus (H1N1pdm09) in swine because this can lead to the emergence of a novel pandemic virus.

Antibodies against swine influenza virus neutralize the pandemic influenza virus A/H1N1
The most effective method for the prevention of influenza infection would be prophylaxis with a safe and effective vaccine and anti-viral materials. After vaccination, neutralizing antibodies are generated by plasma cells following various immune responses, thus resulting in protection against an infectious agent expressing the same antigens.

A systematic review of reported reassortant viral lineages of influenza A [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Most previous evolutionary studies of influenza A have focussed on genetic drift, or reassortment of specific gene segments, hosts or subtypes.

Novel swine influenza virus subtype H3N1 in Italy
To date, three subtypes of swine influenza viruses, H1N1, H1N2, and H3N2 have been isolated in Italy. In 2006, a novel swine influenza virus subtype (H3N1) was isolated from coughing pigs. RT-PCR performed on lung tissues, experimental infection in pigs with the novel isolate, and cloning the virus by plaque assay confirmed this unique H and N ...

Sporadic occurrence of zoonotic swine influenza virus infections [PDF]
Two infections by swine influenza virus, antigenically similar to A/New Jersey/76 (H1N1) virus, were detected during community epidemics with other influenza viruses. The swinelike viruses were obtained during virological surveillance of acute respiratory illnesses, and the clinical symptoms of these two patients were similar to those caused by other ...
