Time-reversal symmetry breaking and the field theory of quantum chaos

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1997
Recent studies have shown that the quantum statistical properties of systems which are chaotic in their classical limit can be expressed in terms of an effective field theory. Within this description, spectral properties are determined by low energy relaxation modes of the classical evolution operator.

Einstein gravity as a symmetry-breaking effect in quantum field theory

Reviews of Modern Physics, 1982
This article gives a pedagogical review of recent work in which the Einstein-Hilbert gravitational action is obtained as a symmetry-breaking effect in quantum field theory. Particular emphasis is placed on the case of renormalizable field theories with dynamical scale-invariance breaking, in which the induced gravitational effective action is finite ...
