X-ray Phase Contrast Imaging from Synchrotron to Conventional Sources: A Review of the Existing Techniques for Biological Applications

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Since the seminal work of Roentgen, X-ray imaging mainly uses the same physical phenomenon: the absorption of light by matter. Thanks to third-generation synchrotrons that provide a high flux of quasi-coherent X-rays, we have seen in recent years new ...

Short-Wavelength Free-Electron Lasers

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2010
This paper presents a short review of the development of and the motivation for short-wavelength free-electron lasers. The first observation of coherent X-ray production was reported from the Linac Coherent Light Source in April 2009.

SUPERLUMINAL SYNCHROTRON RADIATION

open access: yesResource-Efficient Technologies, 2018
To avoid complex computations based on wide Fourier expansions, the electromagnetic field of synchrotron radiation (SR) was analyzed using Lienard–Wiechert potentials in this work. The retardation equation was solved for ultrarelativistic movement of rotating charge at distances up to the trajectory radius.

The use of synchrotron edge topography to study polytype nearest neighbour relationships in SiC [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
A brief review of the phenomenon of polytypism is presented and its prolific abundance in Silicon Carbide discussed. An attempt has been made to emphasise modern developments in understanding this unique behaviour. The properties of Synchrotron Radiation

Performance comparison of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and FerriMagnetic Resonance field markers for the control of low-energy Synchrotrons

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2018
A field marker is a magnetic field sensor used in synchrotrons, which provides a digital trigger when the magnetic field reaches a pre-set threshold. This paper describes the results of an in-situ measurement performed on the Extra Low ENergy Antiproton (

Nonlinear Longitudinal Waves in High Energy Stored Beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We solve the Vlasov equation for the longitudinal distribution function and find stationary wave patterns when the distribution in the energy error is Maxwellian.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Linear accelerators

open access: yes, 2013
Radio-frequency linear accelerators are used as injectors for synchrotrons and as stand-alone accelerators for the production of intense particle beams, thanks to their ability to accelerate high beam currents at high repetition rates.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
