Neuronal THY1 Signaling Maintains Astrocytes in a Quiescent State
THY1‐bearing neurons keep astrocytes in a quiescent state via the interaction with ITGB1. Depletion of THY1 supports the development of a partially activated astrocyte phenotype. Neuronal THY1 is involved in the maintenance and restoration of tissue homeostasis in the brain. ABSTRACT THY1 is a cell surface protein of mature neurons.

Functional Cellular Anti-Tumor Mechanisms are Augmented by Genetic Proteoglycan Targeting. [PDF]
While recent research points to the importance of glycans in cancer immunity, knowledge on functional mechanisms is lacking. In lung carcinoma among other tumors, anti-tumor immunity is suppressed; and while some recent therapies boost T-cell mediated ...

The cytoplasmic adaptor protein Caskin mediates Lar signal transduction during Drosophila motor axon guidance [PDF]
The multiprotein complexes that receive and transmit axon pathfinding cues during development are essential to circuit generation. Here, we identify and characterize the Drosophila sterile α-motif (SAM) domain-containing protein Caskin, which shares ...

We analyzed colostrum and breast milk from 47 mothers to see how proteins change over time and with maternal health. Colostrum had more immune proteins, while mature milk had proteins linked to growth support. Gestational diabetes and higher BMI altered the protein composition.

Immunohistochemical analysis of syndecan-1 in leukoplakia and oral submucous fibrosis
Background: Syndecan-1 is abundant in normal tissues and reduced in squamous cell carcinomas. Leukoplakia and oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) are oral pre-cancerous disorders that have potential for malignant transformation.

Aberrant Expression of Syndecan-1 in Cervical Cancers
Syndecan-1, is a transmembrane heparan/chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan necessary for cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. Its decreased level on the cell surface correlates with poor prognosis in several tumor types.
