The synergistic effect of biosynthesized gold nanoparticles with antibiotic against clinical isolates

open access: yesمجلة مركز بحوث التقنيات الاحيائية, 2019
Background: Antibiotic resistance is a life threating problem and the need for an alternative is increasing worldwide. Objective of this study is: Detecting the combination effect of AuNps with Amoxicillin/clavulanate (AMC) antibiotic against ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Enhanced Raman Scattering by ZnO Superstructures: Synergistic Effect of Charge-Transfer and Mie Resonances.

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2019
A remarkable enhancement of Raman scattering is achieved by submicron-sized spherical ZnO superstructures. The secondary superstructures of ZnO particles with a uniform diameter in the range of 220-490 nm was formed by aggregating ~13 nm primary single ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Synergistic Effect of Co–Ni Hybrid Phosphide Nanocages for Ultrahigh Capacity Fast Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvancement of science, 2019
Rational design of metal compounds in terms of the structure/morphology and chemical composition is essential to achieve desirable electrochemical performances for fast energy storage because of the synergistic effect between different elements and the ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
