Synergistic Effect of Some Emulsifiers

open access: yesJournal of Japan Oil Chemists' Society, 1985
The synergistic antioxidant effects of the fatty acid esters of polyglycerol, propylene glycol and sorbitan with tocopherol (Toc) on lard and palm oil were investigated by the oven and AOM tests. The same tests were also carried out on lecithin.1) In the oven test, fatty acid esters of polyglycerol and sorbitan showed slight antioxidant effects on lard,

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Synergistic Effect on the Electrochemical Performances of Polypyrrole Nanoparticles Distributed on the Graphene Layers as an Electrodes for Supercapacitors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2019
The polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles distributed on the graphene layers are prepared via in-situ polymerization method. The amount of PPy on the graphene layers is varied in order to obtain the highest electrochemical performances. The PPy in graphene/PPy

Synergistic Effect of Butyl Caffeate

open access: yesJournal of Japan Oil Chemists' Society, 1991
Synergistic antioxidant effects of butyl caffeate (BC) and mixed tocopherol concentrate (m- Toc) on lard and palm oil were investigated by the oven test at 60°C and AOM test. The antioxidant effect of BC was also studied. BC was synthesized from caffeic acid and n-butyl alcohol, and its purity was found to be 94.5% by HPLC.1) On lard, BC showed strong ...

Synergistic Antifungal Effect of Glabridin and Fluconazole

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The incidence of invasive fungal infections is increasing in recent years. The present study mainly investigated glabridin (Gla) alone and especially in combination with fluconazole (FLC) against Cryptococcus neoformans and Candida species (Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, Candida krusei, Candida parapsilosis and Candida Glabratas) by different ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Rapid adaptation of a polygenic trait after a sudden environmental shift

open access: yes, 2017
Although a number of studies have shown that natural and laboratory populations initially well-adapted to their environment can evolve rapidly when conditions suddenly change, the dynamics of rapid adaptation are not well understood.

Selective disruption of high sensitivity heat activation but not capsaicin activation of TRPV1 channels by pore turret mutations. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The capsaicin receptor transient receptor potential vanilloid (TRPV)1 is a highly heat-sensitive ion channel. Although chemical activation and heat activation of TRPV1 elicit similar pungent, painful sensation, the molecular mechanism underlying ...
