Abstract Bacillus methanolicus represents a thermophilic methylotroph whose methanol utilization depends on plasmid-encoded genes. It serves as a unique model for deciphering plasmid-dependent methylotrophy and an ideal chassis for low-carbon biomanufacturing using CO2-derived C1 substrates.
