A review of the evidence for the effectiveness of primary prevention interventions for Hepatitis C among injecting drug users [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
BACKGROUND Hepatitis C (HCV) prevalence is most common amongst injecting drug users where up to 98% of the population can be infected despite a low prevalence of HIV.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Liquid Biopsy Enables Targeted Therapy Without Tissue Diagnosis in Pediatric Low‐Grade Gliomas With BRAF V600E Mutation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We present two pediatric cases of pediatric low‐grade gliomas (PLGG) with BRAF V600E mutations diagnosed and monitored using cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) liquid biopsy analyzed via digital droplet PCR (ddPCR), without tissue biopsy. Both patients were treated with dabrafenib and trametinib and monitored through clinical assessments, magnetic ...

A national physician survey on prescribing syringes as an HIV prevention measure

open access: yesSubstance Abuse Treatment, Prevention, and Policy, 2009
Background Access to sterile syringes is a proven means of reducing the transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), viral hepatitis, and bacterial infections among injection drug users. In many U.S.

Tunable biohybrid hydrogels from coacervation of hyaluronic acid and PEO‐based block copolymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Accurately tuning the macroscopic properties of biopolymer‐based hydrogels remains challenging due to the ill‐defined molecular architecture of the natural building blocks.

Intraoperative Collection of Ascitic Fluid With Intra‐ or Postoperative Reinfusion in Ovarian Cancer: Safety and Feasibility of a Roller Pumping Method

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients with ovarian cancer often present with massive ascites, leading to significant protein loss during surgical procedures. Although cell‐free concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART) is used in palliative settings to mitigate protein loss, its application in intraoperative settings remains unexplored.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

In vitro assessment of needle and irrigant penetration when using different irrigation needle tips

open access: yesBiomaterial Investigations in Dentistry
Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the needle and irrigant penetration depth of a newly developed multi-vented polymer needle (30G), with three established needle designs – an open-ended metal needle (30G), a side-vented polymer needle (30G)
