Systematic Social Observation in The Hague 2011/2012

open access: yes, 2013
Systematic Social Observation of 61 items concerning land use, physical disorder, social disorder, physical condition of buildings, evidence of defensible space, traffic, formal and informal control and guardianship in the municipality of The Hague and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Using Systematic Observation to Improve Your Teaching

open access: yes, 2011
Systematic Observation is a system of coding a teacher\u27s classroom behaviors to systematically identify teaching strengths and weaknesses. Time spent TEACHING, OBSERVING, and MANAGING a class, and the use of desirable and undesirable teaching ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Systematic observation to measure teaching quality in different contexts: insights from science lessons, physical education lessons, and sports training using the classroom assessment scoring system

open access: yesFrontiers in Education
There is substantial evidence that the quality of classroom interactions is crucial for students’ academic and social development. Both subject-specific and generic systematic observation instruments are widely used to assess these interactions.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Systematic Direct Observation of Clinical Skills in the Clinical Year

open access: yesMedEdPORTAL, 2014
Introduction Direct observation of clinical skills is vital to medical student development. However, direct observation of medical students by faculty is often sporadic, undocumented, and unstandardized.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
