Insulin sensitisers in the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease : a systematic review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely linked with obesity and the prevalence of NAFLD is about 17% to 33% in the Western world. There is a strong association of NAFLD with insulin resistance and, hence, insulin sensitisers have been tried.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Random weighting estimation for systematic error of observation model in dynamic vehicle navigation

open access: yes, 2016
The Kalman filter requires kinematic and observation models not contain any systematic error. Otherwise, the resultant navigation solution will be biased or even divergent.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

SOCCER VAR: Development of an observational instrument for the analysis of VAR related incidents in soccer

open access: yesMotricidade
Existing literature evidence reveals a significant gap in the use of Video Assistant Referees (VAR) in soccer, particularly regarding the availability of VAR observational methodology resources as a rigorous tool for analysing incidents. The aim of this
