Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

The Association between Serum Vitamin D Concentration and New Inflammatory Biomarkers—Systemic Inflammatory Index (SII) and Systemic Inflammatory Response (SIRI)—In Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The incidence of ischemic heart disease (IHD) increases every year. This cardiovascular disease has an inflammatory factor in its etiology due to different immune cells that influence atherogenesis.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

A retrospective observational study on the prognostic role of inflammatory markers in futile recanalization after endovascular treatment for large-vessel stroke

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research
Objective Endovascular treatment has proven to be effective in improving the outcome of patients with large-vessel stroke. However, more than half of the patients experience poor outcomes despite successful recanalization, which was defined as futile ...

Retrospective evaluation of novel serum inflammatory biomarkers in first-episode psychiatric disorders: diagnostic potential and immune dysregulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry
BackgroundThis study assessed the diagnostic capabilities of eight inflammatory biomarkers in first-episode schizophrenia (SCZ), bipolar disorder (BD), and depression (D), examining their differential expression across these psychiatric disorders.

Evaluation of the systemic immune inflammation index and the systemic inflammatory response index as new markers for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis in children

open access: yesAnnals of Saudi Medicine, 2023
BACKGROUND: Abdominal pain is a common and non-specific symptom in children. It is important to be able to distinguish the source of abdominal pain before surgery. OBJECTIVES: Assess importance of the systemic immune inflammation index (SII), systemic inflammation response index ...
