Inflammation Markers in Patients with Bipolar Disorder Who Have Committed Offenses and Their Relationship with Criminal Behavior

open access: yesMedicina, 2023
Background and Objectives: This study aimed to examine the function of various inflammation parameters and their interactions in the pathology of Bipolar disorder (BD) and to assess whether they could be biomarkers in the relationship between criminal ...

Prediction of poststroke cognitive impairment based on the systemic inflammatory response index

open access: yesBrain and Behavior
AbstractBackgroundPoststroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) is a prevalent complication among stroke survivors. Although the systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) has been shown to be a reliable predictor of a variety of inflammatory diseases, the association between the SIRI and PSCI is still unclear.

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Neutralization of the PTX3/CD44 axis suppresses TGF‐β1 signaling in kidney fibrosis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study investigates how the PTX3/CD44 axis promotes kidney fibrosis by activating TGF‐β1 signaling. We demonstrate that the neutralizing antibody WHC‐001 effectively inhibits this pathway, suppressing myofibroblast activation and partial epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT).

Associations between pretreatment composite inflammatory indices and pathological response to neoadjuvant therapy in breast cancer: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
BackgroundPretreatment inflammatory indices may reflect the host immune-inflammatory status in breast cancer. Evidence comparing multiple composite indices across pathological response endpoints after neoadjuvant therapy remains limited.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Evaluation of Systemic Inflammatory Indices of Earthquake Victims After the 6 February Kahramanmaraş Earthquake [PDF]

open access: yes
OBJECTIVE: Earthquakes cause many people to lose their lives, get injured and leave their homes. Earthquakes constitute a serious risk factor for physical and mental diseases primarily due to traumatic environmental experiences.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...
