We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Individualization of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Using Alpha/Beta T-Cell Depletion
Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is associated with several potentially lethal complications. Higher levels of CD3+ T-cells in the graft have been associated with increased risk of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), but also ...

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Selective allodepletion to improve anti-viral and anti-leukaemic responses after haploidentical transplantation [PDF]
Immunotherapy with allodepleted donor T-cells improves immune reconstitution after haploidentical SCT, but infection and leukaemic relapse remain problematic.

Regulatory CD4(+) T cells have been shown to be important in limiting immune responses, but their role in respiratory viral infections has received little attention.

HIV infection results in the depletion of CD4+ T cells overtime and the loss of coordinated cellular immunity, but how this corresponds to the SIV infected African Green Monkey (AGM) model of non-progressive disease is not known.

Abortive HIV Infection Mediates CD4 T-Cell Depletion and Inflammation in Human Lymphoid Tissue
Summary The mechanism by which CD4 T-cells are depleted in HIV-infected hosts remains poorly understood. In ex vivo cultures of human tonsil tissue, CD4 T cells undergo a pronounced cytopathic response following HIV infection.

DJ‐1 depletion prevents immunoaging in T‐cell compartments
Decline in immune function during aging increases susceptibility to different aging-related diseases. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms, especially the genetic factors contributing to imbalance of naïve/memory T-cell subpopulations, still remain largely elusive.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Hybrid Spreading Mechanisms and T Cell Activation Shape the Dynamics of HIV-1 Infection
HIV-1 can disseminate between susceptible cells by two mechanisms: cell-free infection following fluid-phase diffusion of virions and by highly-efficient direct cell-to-cell transmission at immune cell contacts.
