Climate Change Skepticism in the Face of Catastrophe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper develops a general-equilibrium model of skill-biased technological change that approximates the observed shifts in the shares of wage and non-wageincome going to the top decile of U.S. households since 1980. Under realisticassumptions, we find

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Irrigated sugarcane: An environmentally friendly C-sequestration C4-crop [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Commercial sugarcane is a semi-perennial C4 crop usually harvested each 12 months. Stalk yields exceeding 100 t/ha/year are obtained with best farming practices in warm areas with high net radiation, such as in the semiarid zone.

Forward osmosis treatment of effluents from dairy and automobile industry - results from short-term experiments to show general applicability.

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2018
Forward osmosis (FO) is a potential membrane technology to treat wastewater energy efficiently with low fouling. In laboratory-scale experiments, six effluents from a dairy and an automobile production plant were tested to find out if FO is an applicable

First M87 Event Horizon Telescope Results. II. Array and Instrumentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) is a very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) array that comprises millimeter- and submillimeter-wavelength telescopes separated by distances comparable to the diameter of the Earth. At a nominal operating wavelength of ~

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Phase B: Final definition and preliminary design study for the initial Atmospheric Cloud Physics Laboratory (ACPL), a spacelab mission payload [PDF]

open access: yes
A preliminary identification of the Supporting Research and Technology (SR&T) necessary during the planned evolution of atmospheric cloud physics is discussed. All requirements are for subsequent flights over its expected ten year lifetime.

A study of wrist-worn activity measurement as a potential real-world biomarker for late-life depression. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Late-life depression (LLD) is associated with a decline in physical activity. Typically this is assessed by self-report questionnaires and, more recently, with actigraphy.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.
