Untargeted metabolomics in the aqueous humor reveals the involvement of TAAR pathway in glaucoma
Experimental Eye Research, 2023Understanding the metabolic dysfunctions and underlying complex pathological mechanisms of neurodegeneration in glaucoma could help discover disease pathways, identify novel biomarkers, and rationalize newer therapeutics. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the local metabolomic alterations in the aqueous humor and plasma of primary glaucomatous ...

TAAR 6 and HSP-70 variations associated with bipolar disorder
Neuroscience Letters, 2009We report on the impact of a set of variations located in the HSP-70 (heat shock protein 70) and TAAR6 (trace amine associated receptors 6 gene) in a sample of bipolar patients. Holding a diagnosis of BPD was the first outcome measure. Response to pharmacotreatment in bipolar patients was the secondary outcome measure.

Pure traumatic atlantoaxial rotatory instability is a rare entity in adults. A review of the English literature revealed 10 cases of bilateral, and two cases of unilateral traumatic atlantoaxial rotatory dislocation (TAARD) in adults since the first report in 1969 (Table 1).

Ligands of the trace amine-associated receptors (TAARs): A new class of anxiolytics
Pharmacology Biochemistry and BehaviorMost cases of anxiety are currently treated with either benzodiazepines or serotonin reuptake inhibitors. These drugs carry with them risks for a multitude of side effects, and patient compliance suffers for this reason. There is thus a need for novel anxiolytics, and among the most compelling prospects in this vein is the study of the TAARs.

Volatile amines are recognized by a family of chemosensory receptors: the Trace Amine Associated Receptors (TAARs). Compared to regular olfactory receptors, TAARs are few (6 receptors expressed in the olfactory epithelium) and highly conserved. Thus, polymorphisms in this family can drastically alter our perception of amine compounds.
