Acquisition of Tactile Information from Point Cloud
2020 International Conference on Information and Communication Technology Convergence (ICTC), 2020In this paper, we propose an algorithm to obtain the tactile information of road surface through point cloud data. From the 3D point cloud collected through the LiDAR sensor, three-dimensional spatial coordinate values for each point on the object and road can be achieved. Using these data, the defects such as cracks in roads or port holes are detected,

Nonlinear Processing of Tactile Information in the Thalamocortical Loop
Journal of Neurophysiology, 1997Ghazanfar, Asif A. and Miguel A. L. Nicolelis. Nonlinear processing of tactile information in the thalamocortical loop. J. Neurophysiol. 78: 506–510, 1997. Rats explore tangible objects in a manner such that, at any given moment in time, multiple facial whiskers simultaneously contact the surface of the object.

Visual and tactile information to improve drivers' performance
2010 IEEE Virtual Reality Conference (VR), 2010Usually we steer a car using mainly visual information to perceive road's shape and bends. We developed a driving simulator with visual and/or tactile information guides to virtually present drivers' lateral position and to enhance their steering performance.

It is strenuous to make the visually impaired recognize figures and shapes. It is because there is a lack of understanding about how the visually impaired perceive tactile information. The aim of this research is to elucidate the process by which the visually impaired understand graphics. We video-record touch sensing process.
