Association Between Heavy Metal Exposure and Autism Spectrum Disorders: Discrepancies, Research Gaps, and Future Priorities of Human Epidemiological Studies

open access: yesGeoHealth, Volume 10, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children is a major public health challenge. The potential epidemiological links between heavy metal exposure and ASD remains a controversial issue. This critical review examines the epidemiological discrepancies, including variations in exposure assessment, study design, and population differences that ...

Carbon Stocks in Sugarcane Biomass and Their Implications on Land Use Change CO2 Balance in Brazil

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2026.
This paper develops a regionalized carbon stock factor for sugarcane biomass in Brazil, showing that sugarcane cultivation can lead to net carbon removal in most municipalities. The findings improve greenhouse gas inventories and support bioenergy policies by providing more accurate, spatially resolved estimates for land use change emissions.

Auf dem Weg zu chromoselektiven Transformationen in biologischen Systemen: Perspektiven und Herausforderungen

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 31, 27 July 2026.

Toward Chromoselective Transformations in Biological Systems: Perspectives and Challenges

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 65, Issue 31, 27 July 2026.
Controlling biological systems with small‐molecule chromophores has evolved into a powerful strategy and is applied from chemical biology to medicine. However, the complexity of in vivo systems cannot be matched by a single wavelength of light. Developing methods to combine and individually control multiple chromophores is crucial.
