The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Weakly Labelled AudioSet Tagging with Attention Neural Networks

open access: yes, 2019
Audio tagging is the task of predicting the presence or absence of sound classes within an audio clip. Previous work in audio tagging focused on relatively small datasets limited to recognising a small number of sound classes.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Performance of the Charniak-Lease parser on biological text using different training corpora [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
POS tagging is used as the first step in many NLP workflows, although the accuracy of tag assignment frequently goes unchecked. We hypothesize that changing the training corpora for a parser will affect its POS tagging of a target corpus.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Robust Multilingual Part-of-Speech Tagging via Adversarial Training

open access: yes, 2018
Adversarial training (AT) is a powerful regularization method for neural networks, aiming to achieve robustness to input perturbations. Yet, the specific effects of the robustness obtained from AT are still unclear in the context of natural language ...

Exploratory Analysis of Highly Heterogeneous Document Collections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present an effective multifaceted system for exploratory analysis of highly heterogeneous document collections. Our system is based on intelligently tagging individual documents in a purely automated fashion and exploiting these tags in a powerful ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Contextualising tags in collaborative tagging systems [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 20th ACM conference on Hypertext and hypermedia, 2009
Collaborative tagging systems are now popular tools for organising and sharing information on the Web. While collaborative tagging offers many advantages over the use of controlled vocabularies, they also suffer from problems such as the existence of polysemous tags.
