Stress Nutrition in Aquatic Animals: From Definition to Practice

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Aquaculture faces numerous challenges, with stress being one of the major issues that lead to growth loss, metabolic disorders, weakened immunity, redox imbalance, and organ damage in aquatic animals. Nutritional intervention is one of the effective strategies to address these problems. Traditional research has primarily focused on the impacts

Transcriptome analysis revealed gene expression feminization of testis after exogenous tetrodotoxin administration in pufferfish Takifugu flavidus

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2022
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a deadly neurotoxin and usually accumulates in large amounts in the ovaries but is non-toxic or low toxic in the testis of pufferfish. The molecular mechanism underlying sexual dimorphism accumulation of TTX in ovary and testis, and

Global Warming Affects the Pathogenesis of Important Fish Diseases in European Aquaculture

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 1, January 2026.
The effect of global warming on pathogens and their fish hosts that could exacerbate the negative outcomes for aquaculture. Changes in farming practices and the development of innovative mitigation tools may prove essential to cope with the effects and impacts of rising water temperatures on fish diseases in Europe.

Influence of seasonal and spatial seagrass vegetation (Plantae, Zosteraceae) on fish assemblages in southern Geoje Island, Korea [PDF]

open access: yesActa Ichthyologica et Piscatoria
Seagrass beds are vital marine ecosystems that provide habitat and resources for diverse fish communities. This study evaluated the effects of spatial and seasonal seagrass vegetation on fish assemblages inhabiting seagrass (Zostera marina Linnaeus, 1753)

Effects of Replacing Fish Meal With Plant Protein Sources in Diets With or Without Jack Mackerel Meal Inclusion on Growth Performance of Red Sea Bream (Pagrus major)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Due to stagnant production and high cost of fish meal (FM), feed nutritionists are seeking reliable and affordable alternatives. However, low‐FM diets often result in poor palatability, reduced feed consumption (FC), and impaired growth. This study investigates the effects of replacing FM with plant proteins in diets with or without jack mackerel meal (

Temperature Dependent of Mitotic Interval for Grass Puffer, Takifugu niphobles

open access: yesDevelopment & Reproduction, 2018
The objective of this study was to determine the mitotic intervals (τ0) of two consecutive cell divisions and synchronous embryonic cleavage in grass puffer, Takifugu niphobles at different water temperatures (18, 20, 22, and 24℃). The color of the fertilized egg was light yellowish. The egg type was demersal and unadhesive.

Comparative Evaluation of Feeding Tiger Puffer (Takifugu rubripes) With Trash Fish and Formulated Feeds on Growth Performance, Flesh Quality, Antioxidant, and Immunity Capacity

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study evaluated the effects of replacing trash fish (TF) with formulated feeds in tiger puffer (Takifugu rubripes) on the growth performance, liver and serum biochemical indices, flesh quality, and metabolomics. Fish (39.6 ± 0.2 g) were fed TF, commercial feed (CF), and self‐formulated feed (SF) for 8 weeks. Results indicated that CF and SF groups

Lycium barbarum Polysaccharides Alleviate High‐Fat Diet–Induced Lipid Metabolism Disorder in Takifugu obscurus

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Excessive dietary fat intake disrupts lipid metabolism and induces oxidative stress and inflammation in aquatic species, impairing growth and health. In Takifugu obscurus, a widely cultivated fish species in China, fat predominantly accumulates in the liver, making this species particularly susceptible to hepatic lipid metabolism disorders.

Short and long peptidoglycan recognition proteins (PGRPs) in zebrafish, with findings of multiple PGRP homologs in teleost fish [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Peptidoglycan recognition protein (PGRP) specifically binds to peptidoglycan and is considered to be one of the pattern recognition proteins in the innate immunity of insect and mammals. Using a database mining approach and RT-PCR, multiple peptidoglycan
