Comparative Morphology of Digestive Tract Among 11 Different Marine Fish Species

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Limited information is available about the digestive tract morphology and function in some marine fish species. Using anatomical methods, this study compared the morphological characteristics of the digestive tract among 11 marine fish species of different taxonomic status, feeding habits and ecological niches.

Elemental Requirements of Rearing Seawater for Unfed Larvae of the Japanese Eel (Anguilla japonica Temminck and Schlegel)

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study assessed the influence of salinity and element composition of rearing seawater on unfed Japanese eel (Anguilla japonica) larvae at 5 days after hatching (DAH). First, no significant differences in larval survival were found between natural and artificial seawater across various container materials and sizes (50mL–20 L).

Isolation and Identification of a New Tetrodotoxin-Producing Bacterial Species, Raoultella terrigena, from Hong Kong Marine Puffer Fish Takifugu niphobles

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2011
Puffer fish, Takifugu niphobles, collected from the Hong Kong coastal waters were screened for tetrodotoxin-producing bacteria. A Gram-negative, non-acid-fast, non-sporing and rod shaped bacterial strain (designated as gutB01) was isolated from the ...

Characterization of Fut10 and Fut11, Putative Alpha-1-3/4 Fucosyltransferase Genes Important for Vertebrate Development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Two new, putative alpha-1-3/4 fucosyltransferases ([alpha]1-3/4 Fuc-Ts), Fuc-TX and Fuc-TXI, were identified in the vertebrate genome and transcriptome sequence databases through sequence homology-based queries. These proteins have a significant sequence

Mitochondrial genome sequencing and analysis of scuticociliates (Uronema marinum) isolated from Takifugu rubripes

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2018
Scuticociliates are dangerous parasitic pathogens for in worldwide mariculture. Scuticociliates cause high mortality to marine fish. After an outbreak of scuticociliatosis in Takifugu rubripes in Liaoning Province, northern China, Uronema marinum, a ...

Sum rules of codon usage probabilities

open access: yes, 2002
In the crystal basis model of the genetic code, it is deduced that the sum of usage probabilities of the codons with C and A in the third position for the quartets and/or sextets is independent of the biological species for vertebrates. A comparison with

Microbial diversity and biogeography across gastrointestinal tracts of Takifugu pufferfish revealed by full-length 16S amplicon sequencing

open access: yesWater Biology and Security
Fish, which are vital for both aquatic ecosystem functionality and global food supply, rely heavily on their gastrointestinal tract (GIT) microbiota for the digestion that underpins their growth and health.

Recovery of Listonella anguillarum from Diseased Pufferfish (Takifugu rubripes) in China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In May 2016, there was a disease outbreak among pufferfish (Takifugu rubripes) in a marine farm in Tianjin municipality, with the cumulative mortality rate reaching 45% within 7 days from the beginning of the outbreak.

Mitochondrial genome sequencing of the monogenean Heterobothrium okamotoi isolated from the tiger puffer Takifugu rubripes in North China

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2019
In this study, monogenean Heterobothium okamotoi was isolated and identified from the gill of diseased Tiger puffer (T. rubripes) at an industrial farm in Liaoning, North China (121.3459 E, 38.9861 N). With the completion of H.

Maturation-associated changes in toxicity of the pufferfish Takifugu poecilonotus

open access: yesToxicon, 2010
From October 2006 to December 2007, wild specimens of the pufferfish Takifugu poecilonotus (93 females, 45 males) were collected from the Ariake Sea. Tissue toxicity was examined by mouse bioassay, and tetrodotoxin (TTX) content in the blood plasma by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
