Tapered silicon optical fibers [PDF]

On a Mathematical Model for Fiber Tapering
A simple extensional model for tapering optical glass fibers is derived and analysed. It is shown that, in the absence of surface tension effects, unless the initial fiber has certain spatial singularities, then the cross sectional area of the fiber cannot be made to vanish in finite time.
