Single-Mode Fiber Microlens with Controllable Spot Size [PDF]
A novel method for fabricating microlenses on tapered single-mode fibers is shown to be able to control the lens spot size. The fiber cladding is first symmetrically tapered by etching it with an evaporating ammonium bifluoride solution.

On-Chip Cavity Optomechanical Coupling [PDF]
On-chip cavity optomechanics, in which strong co-localization of light and mechanical motion is engineered, relies on efficient coupling of light both into and out of the on-chip optical resonator.

Low-temperature tapered-fiber probing of diamond NV ensembles coupled to GaP microcavities [PDF]
In this work we present a platform for testing the device performance of a cavity-emitter system, using an ensemble of emitters and a tapered optical fiber.

Efficient Mode Conversion from a Standard Single-Mode Fiber to a Subwavelength-Diameter Microfiber
Efficient mode conversion is crucial for hybrid photonic systems. We present efficient light transition from a standard single-mode fiber (SMF) to a subwavelength-diameter microfiber via a relatively short tapered fiber.

A stripped no-core optical fiber with a 125 µm diameter was transformed into a symmetric and unbroken optical fiber that tapers slightly to a 45-µm-diameter waist. The laser light can be easily launched into the no-core optical fiber.

Low-loss, high-bandwidth fiber-to-chip coupling using capped adiabatic tapered fibers
We demonstrate adiabatically tapered fibers terminating in sub-micron tips that are clad with a higher-index material for coupling to an on-chip waveguide. This cladding enables coupling to a high-index waveguide without losing light to the buried oxide.

Ultralow threshold on-chip microcavity nanocrystal quantum dot lasers [PDF]
Chemically synthesized nanocrystal, CdSe/ZnS (core/shell), quantum dots are coated on the surface of an ultrahigh-Q toroidal microcavity and the lasing is observed at room and liquid nitrogen temperature by pulsed excitation of quantum dots, either ...

Phase shift spectra of a fiber-microsphere system at the single photon level [PDF]
We succeeded in measuring phase shift spectra of a microsphere cavity coupled with a tapered fiber using a weak coherent probe light at the single photon level. We utilized a tapered fiber with almost no depolarization and constructed a very stable phase
