Tapered GRIN fiber microsensor

open access: yesOptics Express, 2014
The sensitivity of an optical fiber microsensor based on inter-modal interference can be considerably improved by tapering a short extension of the multimode fiber. In the case of Graded Index fibers with a parabolic refractive index profile, a meridional ray exhibits a sinusoidal path.

2 μm passively mode-locked thulium-doped fiber lasers with Ta2AlC-deposited tapered and side-polished fibers

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
In this work, mode-locked thulium-doped fiber lasers operating in the 2 µm wavelength region were demonstrated using tantalum aluminum carbide (Ta2AlC)-based saturable absorbers (SAs) utilizing the evanescent wave interaction.

Tapering fibers with complex shape

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
We present a model which allows us to accurately simulate the fabrication process of complex-shaped tapered fibers. The range of possible profiles is only limited by the properties of the heat source used to shape the fiber. The model takes into account the motion of the heat source relative to the fiber as well as its temperature distribution.

Performance Analysis of the Four-Wave Mixing Effect with Various Tapered Fiber Waist Diameters

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
In this work, we report the use of different waist diameters of tapered fiber to generate a four-wave mixing (FWM) effect. The FWM conversion efficiencies obtained from the tapered fiber with 10 µm, 20 µm, and 30 µm waist diameters were −37.81 dB, −38.50

A 5 kW Nearly-Single-Mode Monolithic Fiber Laser Emitting at ~1050 nm Employing Asymmetric Bi-Tapered Ytterbium-Doped Fiber

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
Limited by stimulated Raman scattering (SRS), amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) and transverse mode instability (TMI), it is challenging to achieve high-power laser output in ytterbium-doped fiber (YDF) lasers with operating wavelengths less than 1060

Transmittance of tapered photonic crystal fibers with absorbing coatings [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2020
The interaction of the adiabatically tapered photonic crystal fiber fundamental mode with a thin-film absorbing coating, deposited on a surface of a taper waist, on transmission of a tapered fiber is studied.

Numerical modelling on stimulated Brillouin scattering characterization for Graphene-clad tapered silica fiber

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
This paper presents finite numerical modelling on the cross-sectional region of tapered single mode fiber and graphene-clad tapered fiber. Surface acoustic wave propagation across the tapered surface region on tapered single mode fiber has a high ...

Tapered photonic crystal fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2004
We demonstrate the tapering of a photonic crystal fiber to achieve a microstructure pitch of less than 300 nm. We probe the tapered fiber in the transverse geometry to demonstrate the scaling of the photonic bandgaps associated with the microstructure.

Efficient Mode Conversion from a Standard Single-Mode Fiber to a Subwavelength-Diameter Microfiber

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2023
Efficient mode conversion is crucial for hybrid photonic systems. We present efficient light transition from a standard single-mode fiber (SMF) to a subwavelength-diameter microfiber via a relatively short tapered fiber.
