Practical considerations for characterization of the external exposome in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias cohorts

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract External exposome research offers opportunities to evaluate complex relationships between multiple environmental determinants of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). However, selecting specific exposure domains, identifying metrics, and downloading, processing, and managing big data are key challenges in translating the potential ...

Application of close‐kin mark–recapture to an American black bear population using harvest samples

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 7, October 2026.
Abstract Close‐kin mark–recapture (CKMR) offers a promising alternative to traditional mark–recapture methods for estimating wildlife population parameters. CKMR estimates demographic parameters by identifying genetic relationships between individuals, effectively “recapturing” parental genotypes through their offspring's genetic profiles.

Gall Apparency Drives Parasitoid Richness in a Highly Specialised Gall‐Parasitoid Food Web From a Tropical Rainforest

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
We present the largest tropical tri‐trophic plant–gall–parasitoid network documented to date, assembled from lowland rainforest in Papua New Guinea. The network reveals strikingly high specialisation, in addition to gall traits such as apparency shaping parasitoid richness.

A Genetic Method for Distinguishing Cryptic Pocillopora Species in French Polynesia Without Sequencing

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
This study presents restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) digests that identify the six species of Pocillopora (P. acuta, P. cf. effusa, P. grandis, P. meandrina, P. tuahiniensis, and P. verrucosa) found in French Polynesia, without sequencing.
