Effect of age and disease on taste perception

open access: yes, 2004
Abnormalities in taste function may contribute to poor dietary intake in the elderly, and in patients with renal failure or cancer. This study examined the effect of age on taste thresholds, and taste thresholds adjusted for age, in patients with renal ...

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Taste Modulating Peptides from Overfermented Cocoa Beans

open access: yes, 2019
Activity-guided fractionation of an aqueous extract of overfermented cocoa beans, which were recently found to be a rich source of previously unknown taste enhancing substances, revealed the presence of a series of taste modulating short peptides ...

Encyclopedia of 2D β′‐In2Se3 Growth Using Chemical Vapor Deposition: The Effects of Synthesis Parameters Onto Material Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A distinct semi‐confined inner‐tube chemical vapor deposition geometry enables reproducible, large‐area growth of phase‐pure 2D β′‐In2Se3 from InI + Se precursors. Engineering local vapor transport and optimizing precursor delivery and temperature–time conditions yield uniform continuous films.

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Effects of "Toothcream" and its Components on the Taste Threshold

open access: yes, 1983
P(論文)The authors noted the chage of tastes after cleaning teeth, and researched the change of the taste threshold after cleaning with toothcream and the effects of each component of the toothcream; the effects of surfactants which had been added to ...

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

A high sucrose detection threshold is associated with increased energy intake and improved post-prandial glucose response independent of the sweetness intensity of isocaloric sucrose solutions

open access: yes
Several studies proposed a role for the sweet taste receptor in energy intake and blood glucose regulation, but little is yet known about the impact of the individual sweet taste perception. Here, we found in a cross-over human intervention study with 29

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.
