Evaluation of the first50cases of transcatheter aortic valve implantation(TAVI)at the Matsuyama Red Cross Hospital [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Transcatheter aortic valve implantation(TAVI)has recently become an established standard treatment for severe aortic stenosis(AS)in high-risk and older patients.

Long‐Term Durability of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Prostheses in Patients With Bicuspid Versus Tricuspid Aortic Valve

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background Currently, there is a lack of evidence for the long‐term bioprosthetic valve durability of patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Cells Dynamically Adapt Their Nuclear Volumes and Proliferation Rates During Single to Multicellular Transitions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
It is currently not well understood how cells regulate basic properties, e.g., volume and mechanics within dense multicellular environments like tumors. Here, we show that different cell types of cancer and also normal cells largely decrease their nuclear and cellular volumes in emerging cell clusters and that this is partly driven by cell cycle shifts.

SMAD3 contributes to ascending aortic dilatation independent of transforming growth factor-beta in bicuspid and unicuspid aortic valve disease

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
We sought to determine whether there are differences in transforming growth factor-beta (TGFß) signaling in aneurysms associated with bicuspid (BAV) and unicuspid (UAV) aortic valves versus normal aortic valves.

A Dynamic 3D Human Liver Sinusoid Model for Mechanistic Interrogation of Fontan‐Associated Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a perfusable 3D bioengineered liver sinusoid platform that integrates biofabrication, 3D cell culture, controlled hemodynamics, and multiparametric characterization to model Fontan‐associated liver disease. By decoupling pressure and hypoxia effects, the system reveals early mechanobiological and profibrotic responses under ...

Data‐Guided Photocatalysis: Supervised Machine Learning in Water Splitting and CO2 Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in supervised machine learning (ML) for photocatalysis, emphasizing methods to optimize photocatalyst properties and design materials for solar‐driven water splitting and CO2 reduction. Key applications, challenges, and future directions are discussed, offering a practical framework for integrating ML into the ...

Value assessment of medicinal products by the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) and French National Authority for Health (HAS): Similarities and discrepancies

open access: yesFrontiers in Medical Technology, 2022
The evaluation of pharmaceutical innovation and therapeutic value is an increasingly complex exercise for which different approaches are adopted at the national level, despite the need for standardisation of processes and harmonisation of public health ...

Functional models from limited data: A parametric and multimodal approach to anatomy and 3D kinematics of feeding in basking sharks (Cetorhinus maximus)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Basking sharks, Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus, Brugden [Squalus maximus], Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter, 1765, vol. 3, pp. 33–49), feed by gaping their mouths and gill slits, greatly reorienting their cranial skeletons to filter food from water.

Metabolomic profiling of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections - Implications for pathophysiology and biomarker discovery. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
OBJECTIVE:Our basic understanding of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm (ATAA) pathogenesis is still very limited, hampering early diagnosis, risk prediction, and development of treatment options.
