Development and application of an antibiotic spectrum index for benchmarking antibiotic selection patterns across hospitals [PDF]
Standard metrics for antimicrobial use consider volume but not spectrum of antimicrobial prescribing. We developed an antibiotic spectrum index (ASI) to classify commonly used antibiotics based on activity against important pathogens.

Multimodal Assessment of Kidney Quality During 24‐h of Normothermic Machine Perfusion
Normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) has emerged as a promising tool for assessing kidney quality prior to transplantation; however, reliable biomarkers remain to be established. In this study, thirteen porcine kidneys were perfused for 24 h using an autologous leukocyte‐filtered whole blood‐based perfusate applying urine recirculation.

New Antibiotics for the Treatment of Nosocomial Central Nervous System Infections
Nosocomial central nervous system (CNS) infections with carbapenem- and colistin-resistant Gram-negative and vancomycin-resistant Gram-positive bacteria are an increasing therapeutic challenge. Here, we review pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data and

Empiric Piperacillin-Tazobactam versus Carbapenems in the Treatment of Bacteraemia Due to Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae. [PDF]
Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae are a common cause of bacteraemia in endemic countries and may be associated with high mortality; carbapenems are considered the drug of choice.

Determination of MIC and Disk Diffusion Quality Control Guidelines for Meropenem–Vaborbactam, a Novel Carbapenem/Boronic Acid β-Lactamase Inhibitor Combination [PDF]
Meropenem–vaborbactam is a carbapenem/cyclic boronic acid β-lactamase inhibitor combination primarily active against Gram-negative bacilli, including those harboring class A serine carbapenemases such as Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC).

Development of a Swine Whole Eye Transplant Ex Vivo Perfusion Protocol
This study establishes the first subnormothermic machine perfusion protocol for whole eye transplants in a swine model, enabling up to 18 h of preservation with stable metabolic function, limited edema, and recovery of mydriasis. ABSTRACT Background The first human Whole Eye Transplant (WET) has sparked new hope for patients who have lost vision due to

Local application of gentamicin for wound closure after full‐support microaxial flow pump therapy. ABSTRACT Background Surgically implanted microaxial flow pumps (mAFP) are increasingly used for cardiogenic shock treatment. Standard mAFP explantation is performed bedside with a shortening of the vascular prosthesis, which may represent a potential ...
