Influence of phenobarbital and TCDD on the hepatic metabolism of TCDD in the dog
Experientia, 1985The influence of phenobarbital and TCDD pretreatment on the formation and biliary excretion of TCDD-metabolites following single doses of 3H-TCDD was investigated. Without pretreatment, 24.5% of the absorbed 3H-TCDD dose was excreted in the bile within 110 h. Phenobarbital did not influence this rate, whereas a single dose of 10 micrograms of unlabeled

Abstract Two rat strains differ widely (over 300-fold) in their LD50-values for TCDD. We have compared the effects of TCDD on brain aminergic systems in the two rat strains to assess the role of these systems in the strain difference. Rats of both strains were given 50 μg/kg TCDD (LD100 for Long-Evans [L-E] rats; nonlethal to Han/Wistar [H/W] rats ...

A microbial metabolite of TCDD
Experientia, 1982In the present study we describe the occurrence of a metabolite of TCDD, which arose in several microbial cultures after long term incubation. The polar metabolite amounted approximately 1% of the input material, and was found to be a hydroxylated derivative of TCDD.

A comparative study was carried out in the most TCDD‐resistant [Han/Wistar (H/W), LD50 > 3000 μg/kg] and the most TCDD‐susceptible [Long‐Evans (L‐E), LD50 about 10 μg/kg] rat strain to assess the significance of kinetic factors in TCDD toxicity. Young adult males of both strains were administered 5 μg/kg (1.9 μCi/kg)14C‐TCDD intraperitoneally.

Biological degradation of TCDD in rats
Nature, 1979Apart from its high toxicity, the chemical stability and persistence of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) in the environment bring about additional hazards. However, until now there has been no evidence for degradation of this dioxin in biological systems, and it is considered unusual that a compound which is insusceptible to biological attack

The epidemiology and toxicology of TCDD
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1984The toxicology and epidemiology of dioxin is a broad subject, so I will very briefly review the animal toxicology, then the early studies we conducted here in Missouri and finally other human aspects of TCDD exposure. Figure i is the chemical structure of 2,3,7,8 tetrachlorodibenzodioxin.

Teratogenic potency of TCDD, TCDF and TCDD-TCDF combinations in C57BL/6N mice
Toxicology Letters, 19852,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) and 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzofuran (TCDF) cause the same spectrum of fetal anomalies in C57BL/6N mice. Pregnant dams were treated with TCDD, TCDF and combinations of the 2 compounds on gestation day 10, and examined for maternal and fetal effects on day 18. The fetal kidneys were the most sensitive target for

Environmental Toxicity of TCDD
1983Data on toxicity of TCDD to organisms, concentrations in the organisms, and concentrations in the media in and on which the organisms live can help determine the importance of measured levels of TCDD in the environment as part of the hazard assessment process.

On July 10, 1976, a reactor exploded in Seveso, north of Milan, Italy, sending a cloud of 2,3,7,8-TETRACHLORODIBENZO-P-DIOXIN (TCDD) over al arge area north of Milan. Plants and animaks in the vicinity of the plant were affected, as were humans exposed tro the cloud.
