The influence of phenobarbital and TCDD pretreatment on the formation and biliary excretion of TCDD-metabolites following single doses of 3H-TCDD was investigated. Without pretreatment, 24.5% of the absorbed 3H-TCDD dose was excreted in the bile within 110 h. Phenobarbital did not influence this rate, whereas a single dose of 10 micrograms of unlabeled

A microbial metabolite of TCDD

In the present study we describe the occurrence of a metabolite of TCDD, which arose in several microbial cultures after long term incubation. The polar metabolite amounted approximately 1% of the input material, and was found to be a hydroxylated derivative of TCDD.

A comparative study was carried out in the most TCDD‐resistant [Han/Wistar (H/W), LD50 > 3000 μg/kg] and the most TCDD‐susceptible [Long‐Evans (L‐E), LD50 about 10 μg/kg] rat strain to assess the significance of kinetic factors in TCDD toxicity. On July 10, 1976, a reactor exploded in Seveso, north of Milan, Italy, sending a cloud of 2,3,7,8-TETRACHLORODIBENZO-P-DIOXIN (TCDD) over al arge area north of Milan. Plants and animaks in the vicinity of the plant were affected, as were humans exposed tro the cloud.
