Global linear and nonlinear gyrokinetic simulations of tearing modes [PDF]
To better understand multi-scale interactions between global tearing modes and microturbulence in the Madison Symmetric Torus (MST) reversed-field pinch (RFP), the global gyrokinetic code Gene is modified to describe global tearing mode instability via a

Microscopic Current Sheets and Fast Tearing Modes in Plasma Turbulence
Since the seminal work by W. H. Matthaeus & S. L. Lamkin, a large amount of evidence has been collected over the years that magnetic reconnection can disrupt current sheets formed in turbulence. The details about how this happens, however, are not clear,

Phenomenology of radiative tearing modes in ASDEX Upgrade
Radiative tearing modes (TMs) are magnetic islands with impurities accumulated inside. The present paper discusses experimental evidence and demonstrates, for the first time, simultaneous measurements of temperature, density, and tungsten concentration ...

TEARING MODES GROWTH RATE AMPLIFICATION DUE TO FINITE CURRENT RELAXATION [PDF]
In this work, we explore the influence of perturbative wavelengths, shorter than those usually considered, on the growth rate γ of the tearing modes. Thus, we adopt an extended form of Ohm’s law, which includes a finite relaxation time for the current ...

Neoclassical tearing modes in a tokamak [PDF]
Linear tearing instability is studied in the banana collisionality regime in tokamak geometry. Neoclassical effects produce significant modifications of Ohm's law and the vorticity equation so that the growth rate of tearing modes driven by .delta.' is dramatically reduced compared to the usual resistive MHD value.

Interaction of Tearing Modes with Passive Structures in a Tokamak [PDF]
In this work a surface current plasma model is coupled to a Volume Integral Formulation for studying the interaction between tokamak tearing modes and the machine metallic structures surrounding the plasma.

Current sheets in the solar corona : formation, fragmentation and heating [PDF]
In this thesis we investigate current sheets in the solar corona. The well known 1D model for the tearing mode instability is presented, before progressing to 2D where we introduce a non-uniform resistivity.

Non-linear evolution of double tearing modes in tokamaks [PDF]
The delta prime formalism with neoclassical modifications has proven to be a useful tool in the study of tearing modes in high beta, collisionless plasmas.

Resistive instabilities in toroidal anisotropic plasmas
Resistive singular layer equations are developed by applying the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) model to toroidal anisotropic plasmas. This work extends the previous ideal MHD theory [Shi et al. Phys. Plasmas 23, 082121 (2016)] to the resistive case.
