Temperature-dependent compressibility in graphene and two-dimensional systems [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 84, 235407 (2011), 2011
We calculate the finite temperature compressibility for two-dimensional semiconductor systems, monolayer graphene, and bilayer graphene within the Hartree-Fock approximation. We find that the calculated temperature dependent compressibility including exchange energy is non-monotonic.

Temperature dependence of Vortex Charges in High Temperature Superconductors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Using a model Hamiltonian with d-wave superconductivity and competing antiferromagnetic (AF) interactions, the temperature (T) dependence of the vortex charge in high T_c superconductors is investigated by numerically solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes ...

Temperature increase reduces global yields of major crops in four independent estimates

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2017
Significance Agricultural production is vulnerable to climate change. Understanding climate change, especially the temperature impacts, is critical if policymakers, agriculturalists, and crop breeders are to ensure global food security.

Effects of temperature and temperature gradient on concrete performance at elevated temperatures [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Structural Engineering, 2017
To assure adequate fire performance of concrete structures, appropriate knowledge of and models for performance of concrete at elevated temperatures are crucial yet currently lacking, prompting further research. This article first highlights the limitations of inconsistent thermal boundary conditions in conventional fire testing and of using ...

High-temperature mechanical behavior of polycrystalline yttrium-doped barium cerate perovskite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The high-temperature mechanical properties of the mixed ionic-electronic conductor perovskite BaCe0.95Y0.05O3-δ with average grain size of 0.40μm have been studied in compression between 1100 and 1300°C in air at different initial strain rates.

Local Climate Zones for Urban Temperature Studies

open access: yes, 2012
The effect of urban development on local thermal climate is widely documented in scientific literature. Observations of urban–rural air temperature differences—or urban heat islands (UHIs)—have been reported for cities and regions worldwide, often with ...
