Insights Into the Antigenic Repertoire of Unclassified Synaptic Antibodies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective We sought to characterize the sixth most common finding in our neuroimmunological laboratory practice (tissue assay‐observed unclassified neural antibodies [UNAs]), combining protein microarray and phage immunoprecipitation sequencing (PhIP‐Seq). Methods Patient specimens (258; 133 serums; 125 CSF) meeting UNA criteria were profiled;

Memory reorganization following anterior temporal lobe resection: a longitudinal functional MRI study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Anterior temporal lobe resection controls seizures in 50-60% of patients with intractable temporal lobe epilepsy but may impair memory function, typically verbal memory following left, and visual memory following right anterior temporal lobe resection ...

Rare and common epilepsies converge on a shared gene regulatory network providing opportunities for novel antiepileptic drug discovery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background The relationship between monogenic and polygenic forms of epilepsy is poorly understood, and the extent to which the genetic and acquired epilepsies share common pathways is unclear.

The Case of a 28‐Year‐Old Woman With Medically Refractory Focal Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We present the case of a 28‐year‐old right‐handed woman with medically refractory focal epilepsy. Her seizure semiology and electroencephalography (EEG) indicated a seizure onset zone in the right central‐parietal area. However, both MRI and PET scans were unremarkable, showing no focal lesions or areas of altered metabolism.

Temporal lobe white matter pathways: clinical and anatomical examination related to surgery of drug-resistant structural focal epilepsy

open access: yesЭпилепсия и пароксизмальные состояния, 2022
Background. Detected temporal lobe focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) often results in developing drug-resistant epilepsy requiring surgical treatment. In turn, temporal lobectomy, despite its high efficiency, can cause a certain deficit associated with ...

The white matter connectome as an individualized biomarker of language impairment in temporal lobe epilepsy. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
ObjectiveThe distributed white matter network underlying language leads to difficulties in extracting clinically meaningful summaries of neural alterations leading to language impairment.

Reduced neurosteroid potentiation of GABAA receptors in epilepsy and depolarized hippocampal neurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
OBJECTIVE: Neurosteroids regulate neuronal excitability by potentiating γ-aminobutyric acid type-A receptors (GABARs). In animal models of temporal lobe epilepsy, the neurosteroid sensitivity of GABARs is diminished and GABAR subunit composition is ...

Refractory Status Epilepticus Treated With Bilateral Pulvinar Deep Brain Stimulation—A Case Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT New‐onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE) arises without an identifiable cause or prior epilepsy history, with a 16%–27% mortality rate and significant long‐term neurological sequelae. Neuromodulation such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) targeting the anterior and centromedian thalamic nuclei has shown promise when the traditional ...

Mesial temporal sclerosis presented with refractory seizure

open access: yesAPIK Journal of Internal Medicine, 2019
Background: Refractory complex partial seizures are common in temporal lobe epilepsy, which is often associated with sclerosis of the structures of the medial temporal lobes, particularly the hippocampus.

Resection of dominant fusiform gyrus is associated with decline of naming function when temporal lobe epilepsy manifests after the age of five: A voxel-based lesion-symptom mapping study

open access: yesNeuroImage: Clinical, 2022
Summary: Objective: To determine patients’ characteristics and regions in the temporal lobe where resections lead to a decline in picture naming. Methods: 311 patients with left hemispheric dominance for language were included who underwent epilepsy ...
