Tissue engineering of flexor tendons
Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 2003Despite technical advances in suture methods and rehabilitation protocols, challenges remain in the field of flexor tendon repair. This article reviews the state-of-the-art research in the tissue engineering of flexor tendons. These early published data will hopefully lay the foundation for molecular methods and materials that can be used to ...

AbstractWe studied the feasibility of creating new tissue engineered tendons, using bovine tendon fibroblasts (tenocytes) attached to synthetic biodegradable polymer scaffolds in athymic mice. Calffore- and hind-limbs were obtained from a local slaughterhouse within 6 hours of sacrifice. Tenocytes were isolated from the calf tendons.

Preparation and characterization of decellularized tendon slices for tendon tissue engineering
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, 2012AbstractTo develop a naturally derived tendon tissue engineering scaffold with the preservation of the native ultrastructure, tensile strength, and biochemical composition of the tendon extracellular matrix (ECM), decellularized tendon slices (DTSs) were prepared using repetitive freeze/thaw of the intact Achilles tendons, frozen section, and nuclease ...

Tendon tissue engineering: biomechanical considerations
Biomedical Materials, 2020Abstract Engineered soft tissue products—both tendon and ligament—have gained tremendous interest in regenerative medicine as alternatives to autograft and allograft treatments due to their potential to overcome limitations such as pain and donor site morbidity. Tendon engineered grafts have focused on the replication of native tendon
